Mercari Selling FAQ (2026 Update)

How much are Mercari fees for sellers in 2026?

Starting in early 2025 and continuing through 2026, Mercari uses a "split fee" model. Sellers pay a flat 10% selling fee on the total transaction (item price + shipping). The payment processing fee (formerly 2.9% + $0.50) has been removed for sellers and is now paid by the buyer as a "Buyer Protection Fee."

Why does the calculator include shipping in the fee?

Mercari calculates their 10% commission based on the total amount the buyer pays, which includes the shipping cost. Even if the buyer pays for the label, Mercari deducts 10% of that shipping value from your final payout. Our calculator automatically "pads" your listing price to account for this deduction.

Is it better to offer "Free Shipping" on Mercari?

Items with free shipping often rank higher in search results and attract more buyers. However, if you offer free shipping, you must include the full cost of the label in your listing price. Use our calculator's Estimated Shipping Cost field to see exactly how much you need to increase your price to cover that expense.

How do I get paid on Mercari?

Once the buyer receives the item and "rates" you (or 3 days pass after delivery), your funds are released. You can transfer them via:

Pro-Tips for Maximizing Your Mercari Profit

  • The "Buffer" Strategy: Always list your item for 10-15% more than the "Minimum Listing Price" shown above. This gives you room to send "Offers to Likers" while still hitting your target profit.
  • Watch the Weight: If your package is over the weight on your label, Mercari may charge an overweight penalty. Always weigh your item inside the shipping box before finalizing.
  • Promote Smart: Mercari’s "Promote" button drops your price by 5%. Use our calculator to find your "Floor Price" so you know how many times you can promote before losing money.

Beyond Fashion: What Sells on Mercari in 2026?

While many associate Mercari with women's fashion (similar to Poshmark), its 2026 market position is much closer to a "Mini-eBay." It has evolved into a general merchandise marketplace, and its popularity stems from its extreme ease of use compared to more technical platforms.

1. Electronics and Gaming (High Velocity)

Mercari is a massive hub for "pre-loved" tech. Unlike Poshmark, which remains apparel-heavy, Mercari has a robust audience for:

  • Video Games: Retro cartridges (Nintendo/Sega) and modern consoles.
  • Audio Gear: Headphones, vintage cassette players, and Bluetooth speakers.
  • Smart Home Tech: Used Ring doorbells, older iPads, and Kindle e-readers.

2. Collectibles and Hobbies

This is perhaps Mercari’s strongest niche. Because the app makes listing so fast, it attracts casual collectors who want to offload items quickly.

  • Trading Cards: Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and sports cards.
  • Figures: Funko Pops, Anime figures, and LEGO sets (both new and used).
  • Stationary: Japanese pens, stickers, and crafting supplies.

3. Home and Kitchen

Since Mercari allows sellers to ship larger boxes (up to 50 lbs on standard labels), the home category is very active:

  • Small Appliances: Air fryers, espresso machines, and blenders.
  • Kitchenware: Vintage Pyrex, Rae Dunn ceramics, and high-end cookware.

4. Beauty and Skincare

Unlike many platforms, Mercari has a huge market for unopened beauty products.

  • Subscription Box Overstock: Items from boxes like Ipsy or Sephora Play.
  • Discontinued Items: Hard-to-find perfumes or lipstick shades.
